Found Parts, scrap wood and Rusty Metal
Creating unique vintage art pieces using boxes, found parts, and rusty metal is my true calling.
I always wanted to be an artist. My grandfather was a prolific painter. My father could do anything. My brothers have immense talents that they prefer to focus in a different direction. But alas I was not blessed with their skills with a brush. That, however, never stopped my yearning to actively participate in the creative arts. I dabbled in photography, and pounding nails and advertising for my business but life still left me wanting. When I was young my favorite toy, after the “Shark”, a cool orange race car my brother gave me for my birthday, was a James Bond brief case. Within the confines of that box I could place a camera and a gun and a silencer and who can remember what else? Each one with a specific cut to accept and hold firmly the tools of the secret agent trade. In retrospect, it was not the secret agent part that appealed to me but, rather the organized little box with everything in its place. Perhaps more than anything this obsession with organization explains my failings in being able to interpret the world around me on canvas. Again, this trait rears its ugly head as I was drawn to collect things. Cigarette lighters, transistor radios, flashlights, all placed in neat groupings and displayed on shelves. The idea evolved slowly, as do most things from me. Collections. Vintage collectibles. Grouped together. Every workshop has a scrap bin into which leftover materials from other projects are deposited. I built a box to hold a series if late 1800’s cap guns and an idea was born. Rapidly the scrap bin was depleted of useable stock. What to do? I was already saving vintage collectibles from the scrap heap of history, why not salvage building materials from trash dump? The results are presented here. [Re]Collections: Vintage collectibles encase in recycled materials. Each custom crafted to allow for the removal and handling of the contents. [RE] Designs: Colorful signs inspired by the great people who have passed through my life. [RE]Furnishings: Furniture, usually designed and executed in response to a request. And some memory card to printer, with no Photoshop stop photographs. I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit.
